Lifeblood's focus this year for National Thrombosis Week centres around the shockingly high number of deaths caused by VTE in the under 40s, which amount to over one thousand in the last 4 years. When the under 50s are taken into the equation the numbers rise frighteningly higher to almost three thousand. VTE is still perceived by the general public, and also by many in the medical profession, only as a problem in the elderly or those who have recently been on long-haul flights and certainly not as a disease of the young. These figures very starkly prove what Lifeblood has been saying all along - that this is clearly not the case!
