Victoria Graham contacted us earlier in the year kindly offering to support Lifeblood by fundraising in memory of her sister Sarah who sadly died very suddenly and unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolus 3 years ago whilst on holiday. Victoria and Sarah were very close and the loss was understandably a huge shock to the family. As is sadly the case with many PEs, Sarah showed no obvious signs of illness before the clot took her life.

She wrote about Sarah’s story and expressed a wish to share it on the Lifeblood website, which we are delighted to do. Victoria wrote:

 Sarah’s story

Sarah died on the 17th of October 2007 while on holiday in Spain from a blood clot in her aorta aged 31, were told this was caused from a combination of smoking and the contraceptive pill.  We had a charity night in our pub - the Pilot Boat - as we wanted to support the Lifeblood charity. I started by selling tickets to the night and hoped to raise £1000 I was blown away by the response we had to the night and the amount of support that was shown from friends and local businesses. We decided to have an auction on the evening and a raffle and had some bands on all of which knew Sarah, also some of are regulars and Sarah’s step Dad decided to do their version of the calendars girls and make a calendar called the Pilot Boat Plonkers which is still on sale in the pub.

We had a great night and we raised an amazing £5750. We are still receiving donations so the amount will go up. We had a great night and raised a lot of money.

We are amazed and incredibly grateful for Victoria’s fantastic efforts in making sure her fundraiser was such a roaring success. The impressive sum she raised will help Lifeblood hugely in its efforts to raise awareness of the dangers of thrombosis which will save many lives.

We wish to thank Victoria, her family, and their many supporters who helped to make her fundraiser such a fabulous success.
